Do You Need New Soffit and Fascia When Replacing Siding in North Bay?
This is something that comes up on a lot of jobs.
Someone plans to redo their siding but isn’t sure if they should also be replacing the soffit and fascia at the same time.
The short answer is not always, but in a lot of cases it makes sense.
Soffit and fascia are what tie everything together on the exterior.
The fascia is what your eavestrough attaches to, and the soffit closes in the underside of your overhang while also helping with airflow and ventilation.
When you’re already replacing siding, you’re working right up to these areas anyway, so it’s usually the best time to deal with them properly.
A big part of the decision comes down to condition.
If the fascia board is starting to rot or the soffit is older and showing wear, it’s worth addressing it while everything is opened up.
Going back later to fix it usually ends up costing more and it never ties in quite as clean as doing it all at once.
Another thing people don’t always think about is how everything looks when it’s finished.
You can have brand new siding installed, but if the soffit and fascia are older or don’t match, it stands out right away.
Even if they’re still functional, they can take away from the overall finish of the job.
A lot of the work I do is focused on tying everything together so it looks clean from every angle.
That usually means new steel fascia, properly installed soffit, and making sure all the trims line up the way they should.
It’s not just about replacing pieces, it’s about making the whole exterior look finished and not pieced together.
That being said, not every job needs a full replacement.
If everything is still in good shape, there are ways to work with what’s there and still get a clean result.
It really comes down to what condition it’s in and what you’re trying to achieve with the project.
If you’re already planning siding, it’s worth stepping back and looking at everything as a whole.
In a lot of cases, doing it all at once saves time, looks better, and avoids having to revisit it later.
