Steel vs Vinyl vs Aluminum Siding in North Bay, What’s Actually Worth It For Your Home?
If you’re thinking about redoing the exterior of your place, one of the first things you’re going to run into is what siding to go with.
Most people are choosing between steel, vinyl, or aluminum.
They all have their place, but they’re not even close to the same once you factor in our weather here in North Bay.
I get asked about this on pretty much every job, so I’ll break it down the way I explain it to homeowners when I’m on site.
Vinyl is usually where people start.
It’s cheaper upfront, and it will clean up the look of a place right away.
That’s why it’s everywhere.
The downside is over time it fades, it can crack, and it tends to move around with temperature changes.
Around here, with the winters we get, you’ll usually start to see that sooner than you’d like.
If you’re trying to stay on a tighter budget, it can make sense.
Just don’t expect it to look the same long term.
Aluminum is kind of in between.
It’s a bit tougher than vinyl and doesn’t have the same cracking issues, but it dents pretty easily and still doesn’t give you that really clean, finished look most people are after now.
You don’t see it as much anymore, but it still comes up depending on the situation.
Steel is where things start to separate.
It’s more money upfront, but it holds up a lot better over time and gives you a much cleaner end result, especially when it’s done properly.
Most of the work I do is custom steel siding, along with soffit, fascia, and trims.
The biggest difference isn’t just the material, it’s how everything is finished.
Clean lines, tight fitment, and making sure everything ties together properly.
That’s what makes a place look finished, not pieced together.
I can come take a look and walk you through what makes the most sense for your place and your budget.
